A slow-cooked apple purée spiced with cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg that concentrates down to a rich, spreadable preserve. No pectin needed — apples have enough natural pectin to set themselves. Better on toast than any jam.

Ingredients

🌱 From Your Homestead

  • apples (5 lbs, any variety)
  • raw honey (2 tbsp, optional partial sweetener swap)

🛒 From the Store

  • sugar (1 cup)
  • apple cider (1 cup)
  • cinnamon (2 tsp)
  • cloves (1/4 tsp)
  • nutmeg (1/4 tsp)
  • canning jars

How to Make It

  1. Gather your ingredients: apples (5 lbs, any variety), raw honey (2 tbsp, optional partial sweetener swap), sugar (1 cup), apple cider (1 cup), cinnamon (2 tsp), and the rest.
  2. Prep your homestead ingredients — wash, chop, and measure: apples (5 lbs, any variety), raw honey (2 tbsp, optional partial sweetener swap).
  3. Leave the lid off for the last hour so moisture evaporates and the butter thickens. It's done when a spoonful on a plate holds its shape without releasing liquid around the edges.
  4. Cook for approximately 3 hr. Adjust to taste and serve 32 portions.
  5. Plate, enjoy, and share with your household!
