A proper BLT built around a tomato that was on the vine this morning. The tomato is the whole point — everything else just holds it together.

Ingredients

🌱 From Your Homestead

  • peak-ripe tomatoes (2 large)
  • fresh lettuce or arugula
  • fresh basil

🛒 From the Store

  • thick-cut bacon
  • sourdough or sandwich bread
  • mayonnaise
  • salt
  • pepper

How to Make It

  1. Gather your ingredients: peak-ripe tomatoes (2 large), fresh lettuce or arugula, fresh basil, thick-cut bacon, sourdough or sandwich bread, and the rest.
  2. Prep your homestead ingredients — wash, chop, and measure: peak-ripe tomatoes (2 large), fresh lettuce or arugula, fresh basil.
  3. Salt the tomato slices five minutes before assembling. It draws out moisture and concentrates flavor — the difference between a good BLT and a great one.
  4. Cook for approximately 15 min. Adjust to taste and serve 2 portions.
  5. Plate, enjoy, and share with your household!
